Welcome to this tutorial on how to color an eye digitally! process of coloring an eye using digital drawing software.
We will cover the basics of selecting colors, adding depth and dimension, and creating realistic skin textures. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced artist, this tutorial will provide helpful tips and techniques for bringing your eye drawings to life. Let’s get started and discover how to add realistic and captivating colors to your eye drawings !
👁️ Step 1: Select a Base Color for the Eye! Start by selecting a base color for the eye using your digital drawing software’s color picker tool. Choose a skin color that works well with the mood or atmosphere you’re aiming to create with your artwork. Make sure the color you choose complements the overall palette of your drawing
👁️ Step 2 : Next, select a color for the pupil itself. Dark colors such as black, brown, or dark blue work well for the pupil as they give the eye depth and dimension.
Step 3 : Once you’ve chosen your base eye color and pupil color, it’s time to add some depth to your eye by adding a reflection color. Choose a color that is somewhat lighter than your pupil color, and fill in a small circle or dot in the center of the pupil. This will give the illusion of light hitting the eye, giving it a more realistic and lifelike effect. I also colored the inner eye (light pink) and white part of the eye (light grey).
👁️Step 4 : Shade and Shadow the Eye Using the same tools as in Step 2, use light and dark shades of the base eye color to add contrast and depth to the eye. To finish off the eye, you can add some final touches of detail to the inner corner and the white part of the eye. Start by adding some light shading or reflections to the inner corner of the eye to make it pop out a bit more. Then, use a lighter version of the base eye color to add some highlights to the white part of the eye, making it look more shiny and realistic. Remember to blend the shadows and highlights well to give the eye a continuous and natural look.
👁️ Step 5 : Add Skin Texture The final step in coloring an eye is adding skin texture to the surrounding skin. Use light and dark shadows to create the illusion of skin textures, such as creases and wrinkles, around the eye. Use soft, blended edges to make the transitions between the shadows and highlights smooth and natural. Be sure to pay attention to the direction of the light source when adding shadows and highlights to make the skin look realistic.
👁️ Step 6 : Add a soft glow to the highlights found on the eye. Compare step 6 to step 5 to see the difference. 😀
Coloring an eye digitally can be a fun and rewarding process. By following the steps outlined above, you can create an eye that looks realistic and lifelike. Remember to choose colors and shades carefully to create depth and contrast, and pay attention to the direction of the light source to give your eye a sense of realism. With practice and patience, you can create eyes that look as if they could pop out of the page. Happy drawing! Make sure to check out the other tips and tutorials !
