Welcome to the tutorial on “How to do Hairstyles Part 1: Long Hair”! Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced artist, you’ll find valuable tips and techniques for drawing long, beautiful styles. This tutorial will cover the basics of drawing long hair and provide step-by-step instructions on how to create various long hairstyles.
For doing long hairstyles, you’ll need a few basic supplies:
* A sketchpad or drawing paper
* Drawing pencils in various grades (ideally, a set that includes HB, 2B, 4B, and 6B)
* Blending stumps or tortillons
* Eraser for smudging and erasing lines
* A ruler or straightedge (optional)
If you’re feeling fancy, you can also use:
* A pencil sharpener
* Charcoal pencils or a charcoal blending stick
* A colorless blender pencil
* A kneaded eraser for fine details

Step 1 : Let’s begin by creating the foundation for your character's hairstyle - the head! Start by sketching a light outline of the head shape. This could be an oval, rectangle, square, or any other shape that suits the character you have in mind. Make sure to keep your lines loose and light for now, as these will serve as guidelines to build upon.
Step 2 : On the top of your character's head, draw a long, graceful rainbow arch that slowly curves downward. This arch will serve as the foundation for the hair that will flow down the character's head.
Next, below the ear, draw a straight line that connects the ear to the rainbow arch you just created. This line will indicate where the hair will extend below the ear.
Step 3 : We'll repeat the same process as Step 2, but this time on the left side of the character's head. Draw a graceful rainbow arch that curves downward, similar to the one we created on the right side of the head. Connect this arch with the straight line below the ear, creating a seamless flow of hair.
Step 4 : Use your eraser to gently remove the sketch you made earlier, revealing a smooth surface for the hair to rest on. Make sure to use light, sweeping motions to avoid leaving behind any harsh eraser marks.
Step 5 : In step 5, on the forehead area, draw a snake-like line that stops at the tip of the ear. This line should be slightly wavy and follow the natural contour of the forehead. Think of it as the starting point for the hair to flow down from the crown of the head.
Step 6 : Next, we'll repeat Step 5 on the other side of the head. Draw another snake-like line that stops at the tip of the ear, this time on the left side. This line will create balance in the hairstyle, ensuring the hair flows smoothly from both sides of the head.
Congratulations on completing the tutorial on “How to do Hairstyles Part 1: Long Hair”! You now have the basic foundations to start drawing gorgeous, flowing long hairstyles. Remember to keep practicing and experimenting with different shapes and styles to find the look that best suits your character. Happy drawing!
